Day 2:

Luang Prabang: Wellness, Heritage & A Sacred Lao Blessing (B/L)

Enjoy a slow morning before indulging in a 90-minute Traditional Lao Massage, an ancient healing ritual combining deep pressure, stretching, and rhythmic movements to release tension and restore balance. You’ll leave feeling relaxed, refreshed, and quietly re-energized for the day ahead.

In the afternoon, the journey begins with Wat Xiengthong, a masterpiece of Lao temple architecture, where sweeping roofs cascade like silk and mosaics shimmer with the radiant “Tree of Life.” Strolling the quiet lanes of the old town, you glimpse daily rhythms unfolding, before stepping into the Royal Palace Museum, once the French-era residence of King Sisavang Vong.

As dusk approaches, ascend Mount Phousi, where a golden stupa crowns the skyline and sunset spills over the Mekong.

The evening closes with a private Baci ceremony in a local home, strings of blessing tied to your wrist, weaving you into Lao spirituality. Dinner with your hosts completes this intimate overture to Luang Prabang.

Day 3:

Luang Prabang: Alms giving & Kuangsi Waterfalls by tuktuk (B/L)

At dawn, join Luang Prabang’s most sacred ritual: the morning almsgiving, a living tradition since the 14th century. In the hushed glow of sunrise, saffron-robed monks move gracefully through the streets, receiving offerings in serene silence.

A stroll through the lively morning market offers another rhythm of local life, where villagers barter fresh herbs, rice, fish, and spices, a tapestry of flavors. After breakfast, your private tuk tuk whisks you into lush countryside toward the Kuang Si Waterfalls. Here turquoise pools cascade through jungle trails; you may swim, wander shaded paths, or encounter rescued Asiatic bears nearby. A picnic lunch unfolds beneath the whisper of falling water.

Before returning, pause at the Butterfly Park (seasonal) and visit Ock Pop Tok, a living craft center where silk and stories are woven by local women. The day closes at Silk Road Café, with sunset painting the Mekong in gold.

Luang Prabang: Mekong Journey to Pak Ou Cave – Nong Khiaw (B/L)

This morning, your journey flows northward as a private boat carries you along the Mekong River, where emerald forests and limestone cliffs compose a timeless landscape. Villages tucked along the banks reveal glimpses of daily life, before you arrive at the mystical Pak Ou Caves. Here, thousands of golden Buddha images, placed by pilgrims over centuries, shimmer softly in the half-light, a sanctuary of devotion carved into stone.

Continuing by car, the road winds toward Nong Khiaw, a tranquil town set beside the languid Nam Ou River. After lunch, walk through rice fields to Phathok Cave, once a shelter during the Secret War. Inside, history whispers from shadowed chambers, while outside, the valley stretches in serene beauty.

As the sun melts into the river, the evening is yours to explore charming local restaurants.

Day 5:

Nong Khiaw – The 100 waterfalls trail (B/L)

The morning begins serenely with a boat gliding along the Nam Ou River, where riverside villages reveal the simplicity of life in northern Laos. After a warm welcome, your adventure unfolds along the legendary “100 Waterfalls Trail”, first revealed to the world only in 2008.

Step into a landscape alive with sound: streams weaving through rice paddies, cascades tumbling in endless rhythm, the jungle echoing with water’s song. Follow your guide through shimmering pools and mossy rocks, pausing for a refreshing dip before savoring a rustic Lao-style picnic lunch amidst this natural symphony.

A gentle trail from the upper falls opens to sweeping views of the Nam Ou Valley, before leading you back to the village path. Here, the river life resumes its quiet pace, and a return boat carries you back to Nong Khiaw at sunset’s golden glow.

Day 6:

Nong Khiaw – Muang Hiam (B/L)

Today’s journey leads us deep into the uncharted heart of Laos. The road to Muang Hiam winds through remote valleys and rugged mountain passes, where life unfolds far from the familiar rhythm of the cities. Along the way, you’ll encounter villages where time seems to pause, their curious smiles as genuine as their connection to the land. Though the route can be challenging at times, every turn reveals sweeping vistas of untouched nature, emerald peaks, winding rivers, and the quiet dignity of rural life. This is Laos at its most raw and soulful, where encounters with locals feel like whispered stories shared across cultures. By late afternoon, arrive in Muang Hiam, a humble town tucked into the mountains. After checking in, take a leisurely stroll through its lanes, letting the day’s impressions settle like soft notes at dusk.

Day 7:

Muang Hiam – Ban Son Khua – Nam Nern night safari (B/L/D)

This morning, set out for Ban Son Khua, a Khmu ethnic village on the edge of Nam Et–Phou Louey National Protected Area. Here, local guides welcome you with stories of animist traditions before leading you upriver by long-tail boat. The slow journey unveils rice fields, riverbanks alive with bird calls, and perhaps the sudden shimmer of a monitor lizard slipping into the water.

At the park substation, enjoy a community-prepared lunch and a briefing from conservation staff about the delicate mission to protect Laos’s endangered wildlife. By afternoon, the adventure begins: hike to a salt lick with your Khmu tracker, reading the silent language of the forest through footprints, broken branches, and hidden trails.

As night descends, share a firelit dinner on a sandy riverbank, listening to folktales of dragons and spirits whispered beneath the stars. Then, glide silently downstream, spotlight sweeping the riverbank in search of civets, sambar deer, slow loris, and the mysterious eyes that glow in the dark.

Overnight in Nam Nern, lulled by the wild symphony of the forest.

Day 8:

Nam Nern – Vieng Xai (B/L)

Wake to the calls of the forest, and before breakfast, follow your local guide on a gentle walk through the jungle. Along the trail, discover the healing secrets of medicinal plants and hear stories of how this remote land once sheltered communities during the Secret War.

After a simple breakfast, embark on a silent boat drift downstream. With engines off, the river carries you through the heart of the protected zone as guides point out signs of wildlife along the banks. Back at Ban Son Khua, join your hosts in a traditional toast of lao hai, rice wine sipped from an earthen jar, a gesture of warmth and connection.

From here, continue the journey by road toward Vieng Xai, pausing at the enigmatic Standing Stones of Hingtang, whose ancient purpose remains a mystery, and the pristine Tad Saleuy waterfall, still untouched by mass tourism.

Arrive in Vieng Xai by late afternoon and check into your guesthouse, where the quiet rhythms of this historic town set the tone for tomorrow’s exploration.

Overnight in a guest house in Vieng Xai.

Day 9:

Vieng Xai – Nameo – Departure (B/L)

This morning, step into the extraordinary history of Vieng Xai, a town whose limestone karsts conceal a “hidden city.” For nearly a decade during the Secret War, over 20,000 people sought refuge here, creating an underground society that sustained life amid relentless bombings.

As you follow the audio tour, the caves reveal a world once alive with resilience, classrooms echoing with children’s voices, makeshift hospitals, meeting halls, a radio station, and even the headquarters of the Pathet Lao. Woven through the narration are personal stories from survivors, offering an intimate glimpse into a chapter of history largely unknown to the outside world.

Beyond its haunting legacy, Vieng Xai also stirs with quiet beauty: emerald peaks, peaceful villages, and a landscape that holds both scars and strength.
After this unforgettable encounter with the living past, continue your journey by road toward the Nameo border, where you cross into Vietnam at Thanh Hoa.

Your Indochina adventure may end here, but the echoes of its stories, landscapes, and people remain, like a symphony lingering in memory.
