Continue past rice paddies and forested hills, stopping at a cave once used as shelter during the Indochina war. The path leads to the source of Kuang Si, where crystal waters feed the cascading falls. Enjoy a rustic Lao-style lunch before descending to the turquoise pools below. Day 3:
Luang Prabang – Pak Ou Caves – Nong Khiaw (B/L)
This morning, visit the exquisite Wat Xiengthong, an icon of Lao temple artistry with its sweeping rooflines and glittering mosaics. Then board a boat upstream on the Mekong, cruising past emerald forests and limestone cliffs. Ban Phayong – Muang Ngoi (B/L)
Wake early to witness the sunrise over mountain peaks or join your hosts in preparing a simple breakfast. Today’s trek winds downhill through terraced fields and corn plantations until reaching the Nam Ou River. Board a boat and journey upstream to Muang Ngoi, a picturesque village accessible only by water. In the afternoon, hike to Ban Na, a Khmu settlement, and visit Tham Kaang Cave, once believed to hold mystical powers. Return to Muang Ngoi at sunset, where life flows at a gentle pace. Muang Ngoi – Nong Khiaw – Muang Soune (B/L)
This morning, stroll through Muang Ngoi’s local market before continuing by boat and road to Muang Soune, a traditional village along the Nam Ou. Be welcomed by your host family and wander the village lanes, meeting elders and hearing stories of its history and way of life.
